Serenity Prayer

This was originally an untitled prayer which later came to be known as the "Serenity Prayer".

Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Footprints In The Sand

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

When I'm anxious...

I used to live in Kuwait till I was 9 with my mother and brother. I lost my father to an accident at the age of 7, my brother was only 5. In the blink of an eye, a family of four was reduced to three, a wife became a widow and a single working mother.

My brother, Abby, will be 27 years old this October. He is a juvenile diabetic and has autism. His only care takers are my mother and myself. He is on insulin 4 times a day and has his blood sugar monitored 6 times a day. All this again is only administered by my mother or myself. He needs round the clock attention.

So, yes, I do tend to get anxious once in a while! Life is tough, especially on my mom, but things could have been much worse. Here are a few verses and psalms that always give me comfort -

Isaiah 41:10 - fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 40:31 - but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Psalms - 23, 46, 91 & 121
